Pakistan Report: Spring 2006 |
|
• Two cities touched by God, Lahore & Karachi [Print this report] We praise the Lord for a wonderful trip to Pakistan, March 14 to April 6, 2006! Nancy Honeytree Miller and Tonya Reed of Honeytree/WindSong Fishnetters, and Syd & Liz Doyle of Nations Light partnered with the Foursquare Foundation to launch an evangelistic push for the year 2006 in Pakistan. This project was 50% funded by a grant from the Foursquare Foundation and 50% funded by individual and church donations. It was also supported by a strong network of prayer warriors who stretched across the globe! With sufficient prayer anything is possible! |
| The trip was hosted by Haroon Bhatti and his excellent team from Abundant Life Gospel Assemblies in Lahore, Pakistan. Team members included Dan & Nori Chesney, Don Hall, Agabus Lartey and Rodney Pereira. There’s so much to tell… let’s begin with an overview:
| |
| | History & Highlights 2000 ∙ Haroon Bhatti met Liz Doyle and invited her to “come to my country – my women need your fire!” 2002 ∙ Team (Doyles, Honeytree, plus) ministered in 11 days to 25,000 and saw 7,000 receive Jesus in Lahore area. 2004 ∙ Nancy & Tonya returned to Lahore to translate 11 songs to Urdu and record demo. 2005 ∙ Nancy recorded the Call of The Harvest CD in English, Spanish, and Urdu (language of Pakistan), and also filmed 6 of the Urdu songs as music videos through International Media Ministry. 2006 ∙ Team returns to Lahore and Karachi, releases Urdu CD and ministers to 70,000.
| | • Exceeding abundant response Our goal for this trip was to reach 50,000 people and see 10,000 receive Jesus. However, in the first week of meetings, that goal was doubled! A national newspaper reported that 15,000 people attended one meeting in the town of Sahiwal. In total the team ministered for 24 days, did 16 evangelistic crusades, preached at over 20 Sunday morning services, taught 7 leadership seminars on Breaking Barriers, held 3 Releasing Daughters Conferences, and did 1 contemporary Christian music concert. Together we touched 70,000 people, and saw 49,000 people respond to the gospel!
|
| | • Urdu CD released One of our main objectives for this trip was to release the Call of the Harvest CD in Urdu, which Nancy had been working toward since the 2002 trip. It was a tremendous experience of satisfaction and thankfulness to see the CD which had been manufactured in Pakistan, with its beautiful Urdu script. Glory to Jesus!
| |
| | • Language Connection Succeeds In Nancy’s words, “After practicing very hard and desperately hoping that it would work, it was truly an awesome experience to see the response of people as I sang in Urdu. The expression on their face was a beautiful mixture of delight, bewilderment, joy appreciation, and just plain fun! We connected!
|
| | Part of the adventure for me is the fact that there’s no way to learn exactly how to minister to the people in song except by going there and learning on your feet as you are doing it. Believe me, it’s a super feeling of relief and joy after a few days of feeling my way through until I finally reach that place of total connection. For me it happened on the Sunday night of the Lahore Crusade when everything came together. | |
| | There was such a spirit of joy that the young people were up on their feet dancing. The Holy Spirit unified the crowd and there was a Spirit just like at the Jesus rallies of the 70’s.” |
| | “That night was extra special because my translator, Akram John, was able to come and join the worship band. I enjoyed telling the whole crowd about his contribution to the project. Here is Akram, on the left, and also there is Melvin, who helped me make a demo in 2004 when we recorded our translations in the studio.
| |
| | | None of this would have been possible without the wonderful talents and dedication of our hosts, Haroon Bhatti and his wife Aster. It was so great to be together again, serving in the Harvest fields, and to see how their children, Jeremiah and Hoshama, are growing. We love these guys! |
| | Aster had organized a group of young people in a beautiful dance to “Let Your Light Shine.” | | And the whole team was amazed at the amount of work that Haroon and his team had put into the project. We kept asking ourselves how in the world they could pull off one tremendous event after another, day after day, after day! Each event was well organized, security was top notch, even the back drops for each event were artfully designed and very effective. What a great organizer Haroon turned out to be! |
| | • Contemporary Christian Concert in Lahore | | I was so blessed and excited to be pushing Jesus Music farther by participating in (as far as I know) the first contemporary Christian concert in Lahore, Pakistan! Many fine local artists took part in the concert, and we had a ribbon cutting ceremony to launch the Urdu CD. What an awesome opportunity to make Jesus Music available in Urdu!” | Nancy Honeytree, Haroon Bhatti, Liz Doyle |
|
| | • International Team Extremely Effective | | “It was such a privilege, as always, to work with Syd and Liz Doyle. Here is Liz, preaching in the town of Chung, where they received us just as if we were Jesus Himself visiting their town. I never heard Liz preaching better than on this trip – I just love the way she captivates the crowd as she tells the stories of Jesus. We were all amazed at every meeting when 80% of the people would respond to the gospel appeal. Pastor Haroon said that he has seen people spend 10 times the money on these kinds of meetings and not see this kind of response. Folks, that just has to mean that YOU ARE PRAYING SUFFICIENTLY! HALLELUJAH – AND THANKS A TON!
|
| | • Foursquare Grant enables expansion of ministry to new territory | | With the Foursquare grant money we were able to minister in Karachi, the largest city of Pakistan (18 million.) Here we are praying in submission to the local Pakistani church leadership, as we are opening a leadership conference. 500 church leaders came and there was a tremendous spirit of breaking down barriers. | |
| | When we did Releasing Daughters in Karachi, a prophetic word came that the Lord had sent fresh legions of angels into the area, which would remain in response to their willingness to preach the gospel – according to Acts 18:9-11, there would be diving protection and opportunity. Tremendous joy was released as the word was received! ..."Do not be afraid any longer, but go on speaking and do not be silent; for I am with you, and no man will attack you in order to harm you, for I have many people in this city." And he settled there a year and six months, teaching the word of God among them. Acts 18:9-11
|
| | Tonya spoke at Releasing Daughters on the subject of being a witness in “Jerusalem, Judea, Samaria and the uttermost parts of the world.” On a more personal note, Tonya was able to stop taking her medication while we were on the trip, and came home to receive the confirmation from her doctor that she no longer has diabetes! Thank you Jesus!”
| |
| | • Call of the Harvest electrifies the Karachi crowd | | “On our last evening in the city, as we announced that I was about to sing “Call of the Harvest”, a roar went up from the crowd and everyone jumped up to their feet. It was electrifying! Even the whole platform of ministers was on their feet dancing and rejoicing in a powerful presence of the Lord. | |
| | Though it was very hard to leave such a fruitful time of ministry, and such wonderful fellowship with our Pakistani friends, it was helpful to know that the Call of the Harvest CD is still there, and not only that, but the new Urdu music videos also there. | | Here is a scene from “Man In White.” This is one of 6 Urdu music videos that I was able to film in Spain last fall through the International Media Ministry. They are now being beamed by satellite in Pakistan, the Gulf, and northern Iraq as part of a TV program called The Bible Channel. To read more about this ministry, check out www.thebiblechannel.org |
| | • Ministry to continue throughout 2006 | | Also, we are thrilled that the project is not over, but it is only the end of Phase 1, the Trip, and the beginning of Phase 2, the Evangelism Training School. Haroon has identified 20 key leaders who will be mentored under him for the next year, learning his incredible skills in organizing evangelistic meetings, and also following up on the 49,000 people who responded. Let’s keep praying for the whole year, because there’s much more harvest to reap!
| | As we close this report, I leave you with some beautiful faces to remember and pray for, the gorgeous children of Pakistan. Thank you so much for all your love and support, which has made this dream come true, and continue to bear fruit!” Love in Jesus, Nancy Honeytree Miller Project Leader Pakistan Concerts and Crusades 2006
